MagicBands have been around for some time now at Walt Disney World, but do you know what they do and how to best utilize all the features? If not, read on for a in-depth guide to MagicBands at Walt Disney World.
What are MagicBands?
MagicBands are waterproof wristbands that are linked to your My Disney Experience account. With a MagicBand, you are able to do the following with a simple “tap” of your band to a sensor called a touch point:
- Unlock your Disney Resort hotel room
- Enter theme and water parks (with valid admission)
- Connect Disney PhotoPass images to your My Disney Experience
- Charge food and merchandise purchases to your Disney Resort hotel room (only available during your resort stay)
- Enter Lighting Lanes (with valid reservations)
MagicBands also unlock special surprises personalized to you throughout your Disney World vacation, including personalized messages on “it’s a small world.” Additionally, your Disney PhotoPass attraction photos will automatically link to the Photo Gallery your My Disney Experience account.
How Do I Get a MagicBand?
MagicBands are no longer provided complimentary to Disney Resort hotel Guests as they were in the past. You can purchase a MagicBand prior to your visit or when you get to Walt Disney World.
If you would like to purchase your MagicBands prior to your visit, be sure to do so at least 11 days prior to your arrival. After that time, you will be unable to place the order. To purchase, sign into your Disney account and be sure your reservation is linked to your account. Once your reservation is linked, visit “My MagicBands and Cards.” Click on “Get Started” and select the MagicBands you would like to order. Your MagicBands will be linked to your account automatically.
If you purchase a MagicBand at Walt Disney World or at ShopDisney, you will need to manually link your MagicBand. To do so, sign into your Disney account and visit “My MagicBands and Card.” Scroll down to “Link.” Then select “MagicBand” and enter the ID number that is located on the inside of your MagicBand.
Do I Need a MagicBand?
MagicBands are not required to access any the items listed above. If you do not have a MagicBand, you will be provided a card. The card will provide you access to everything a MagicBand does. The only downside is you’ll have to take it out of your wallet/purse/wherever you’re holding it each time you need to use it.
What is MagicBand+?
