Last Saturday I was invited by Painting with a Twist in Forest Hills, New York to get ready for Disney’s Frozen 2 (coming out November 22!) and paint one of my favorite Frozen characters. Of course I jumped at the chance to mix my two favorite things – Disney and art – and brought my boyfriend along to make a date out of it. We both had a great time learning how to paint some of our favorite Disney characters in a relaxed setting and will definitely be visiting again!

The Class
Registering for the class was super easy – we visited the Painting with a Twist website and were able to put in all our information to secure our spot. During registration, we selected what character we would like to paint – Elsa, Anna, or Olaf. I picked Anna (I’m a little sister, so how could I not connect with her?!) and Pat picked Olaf (mostly because Josh Gad voices him).

Getting to the location was super easy and we arrived about 15 minutes prior to the start of the class. We were able to find free street parking nearby. There are a number of places to grab a quick bite or coffee within walking distance if you arrive early or are hungry after.

The Forest Hills Painting with a Twist staff was excellent from the moment we walked through the door. They helped us find our easels and smocks to prepare for the two-hour class and were eager to answer any questions and share tips and tricks for painting.

The instructor, Mawhyah “MOMO” L., led us through the process of painting the characters we had selected and gave us plenty of time to mix the paint and paint a number of layers if necessary. I was so impressed that MOMO was able to teach the class how to paint three different characters in one class. Because I was painting Anna I only really paid attention to those instructions, but it was great because you didn’t feel rushed, since she was moving onto instructions for Elsa and Olaf, leaving you plenty of time to create your masterpiece.

To add even more fun, during the class Disney music was played in the background, Frozen 2 themed snacks were available to munch on and the children that were taking the class played a game of “heads up” while we waited for our base paint to dry.
There was a wide age range in the class, but MOMO and the rest of the staff did a great job moving at a pace that wasn’t too quick for the younger students, but also didn’t feel too slow for us kids at heart.

Being the perfectionist that I am, I was worried that two-hours wouldn’t be enough time to paint something I would be happy with, but the Painting with a Twist staff has this figured out! At 1 pm on the dot, Pat and I finished our paintings and were ready to display them proudly for a picture.

Both Pat and I had so much fun learning how to paint Anna and Olaf and think we may have to go back for another class to paint Elsa!
Frozen 2 themed painting events will take place at Painting with a Twist locations, including Forest Hills, NY, for a limited time from October 22nd through November 24th. Prices vary based on day, time, and special offerings, but the average price for a spot to paint a 16×20 canvas is $37. There are age requirements for the classes, so be sure to check that out when registering children.
Thank you again to Painting with a Twist in Forest Hills, New York for hosting us for the morning! We can’t wait to have another date day at Painting with a Twist soon!
This looks like so much fun! Also I was impressed with the way the class structure was set up. I always hesitate to do something like this because of my concerns about “not knowing how to paint” , however it appears the staff offers lots of support. From your description it seems like a very well organized and orchestrated event. I’m going to have to try it!
